The evolution of EVO

Introduced as a new generation of modular conveyor guards, the design enables workers to perform their jobs more efficiently, with reduced risk by restricting access to moving parts and pinch points.

EVO also permits efficiency for an operation, helping to ensure plant compliance with safety standards and regulations.

The new guards are designed to be user-friendly, including standardized panels that fit virtually any conveyor design.

“Wedge clamps allow the guarding panels to be removed and reinstalled quickly and easily, so systems can be expanded or relocated as needed,” the company explained to Coal USA, adding that a variety of wedge bolts and bracket sizes are offered to address the needs of a wide range of mounting options.

The EVO conveyor guards are self-supporting and a rugged modular design installs to a supplied angle iron structure – which removes the need for the guards to be attached directly to conveyor equipment.

Also, because integrated handles are included, the number of parts and tools required to install is greatly reduced.

The new conveyor guards conform to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.217 (when installed with a minimum of 5.5 inches of clearance between the guard opening and hazard), as well as US Mine Safety and Health Administration safety standards 56.14107 for moving machine parts; 56.14110 for flying or falling material; 56.14112 for guard construction; 75.1722 for mechanical equipment guards and 77.4400 for mechanical equipment guards.

They are available in sizes ranging from 11in x 17in samples up to 36in x 50in panels.

The guards, available in powder-coated orange or painted safety yellow, can be used in a variety of combinations ensuring even the most unique designs as well as custom-designed conveyor systems.

Additionally, the guards can be purchased with or without mounting hardware. Martin Engineering will be rolling out the new release at different times depending upon the country and region.

In the meantime, the company said earlier this year that it was expanding its footprint in India. After nearly seven active years in the Indian market, company officials announced it would launch a business unit in the country this year. The arm will be in Pune and is the result of a detailed market study and entry strategy the company performed in 2010.

Martin is already incorporated in India and its prior presence was established with the help of its licensee, Thejo, for the distribution and support of select bulk handling technologies.

Martin Engineering is now looking ahead to its role as a full-service supplier for the country’s mining, steel, power and cement industries.

It is currently developing a strategic business plan around its intentions and is hiring a managing director to oversee the facility. It will finalize the lease of a 20,000 square foot space and expects to be in full operation by the second quarter.

Martin Engineering will also have sales and service offices as well as staff in Calcutta, Delhi and Chennai.
