Galilee has experience at senior levels of politics and government, including four years as chief of staff with former federal Minister for Industry, Tourism and Resources Ian Macfarlane and as a senior advisor to former Prime Minister John Howard.
More recently, he served as chief of staff to NSW Treasurer Mike Baird.
NSW Minerals Council chairman Mick Buffier said he was appointed after an executive search from a strong field of high calibre candidates.
“Stephen’s background and experience makes him well suited to the role,” Buffier said.
“He has a prior association with the resources sector from his time in government. He has a track record for strategic thinking and policy development and will be a forceful and effective advocate for the industry.”
Galilee said he was very excited at the opportunity to represent the NSW minerals sector.
“The NSW mining and minerals sector has a long and impressive record of contribution to this State – generating growth, investment and jobs for the community,” he said.
“The sector is also expected to return around $A8.5 billion in royalties to the State Government over the next four years, helping to fund essential services and infrastructure for the community.
“I look forward to contributing to the ongoing development of our world class mining sector and delivering benefits to the people of NSW.”
