Queensland's August output

COAL output for Queensland's coal mines during August totalled 15.8 million tonnes, according to figures recently released by the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines.

The state's underground mines produced 2.64Mt during the month, with opencut mines contributing the remaining 13.16Mt.

Total exports went from 13.02Mt in August last year to 11.72Mt this year. Both coking and thermal coal exports fell year-on-year.

Dalrymple Bay exported 4.6Mt, Gladstone 3.63Mt and Hay Point 2.2Mt.

Compared with a year ago, 2167 more people were employed in the state's coal industry this August. The underground sector employed 3196 people.

Average output per seven-hour employee shift was 32.45t for Queensland's underground Northern district, while the Central district averaged 42.08t.
