Queensland coal output for October

Opencut production accounted for 13.339Mt while underground contributed 1.971Mt.

Of the total October 2006 production, coking coal exports totalled 8.4Mt with thermal exports making up 3.603Mt.

During the month, some 2.043Mt was used within the state of Queensland for electricity generation.

Employment figures at Queensland's coal mines rose significantly from the same period last year, from 16,791 to 17,130 people employed, both at opencut and underground operations.

Some 3249 were employed in the underground sector, according to the report.

Coal exported through Dalrymple amounted to 4.463Mt followed by Gladstone (4.177Mt), Hay Point (2.137Mt), Abbot Point (940,589t) and Brisbane (285,749t).

Of total exports, Japan received the bulk taking 4.806Mt, followed by Korea (1.583Mt) and India (1.258Mt).
