Co-sponsored by the National Mining Association, United Mine Workers of America, US Mine Safety and Health Administration and the Bituminous Coal Operators’ Association, the one-day event will be held at the Salt Lake City Marriott Downtown.
The impetus for the event, according to organisers, is to educate mine workers, engineers, mine managers and other industry professionals on the newest technology in noise control as well as ways to more effectively use existing prevention equipment.
Several presentations have been scheduled regarding both hearing loss and noise control issues. Some of them include:
How to assess and rank equipment noise sources – David Yantek, NIOSH
Acoustic materials for noise control – Rob Mays, Polymer Technologies
Case studies of noise controls to abate exposure violations – Leonard Marraccini, MSHA
The worker’s role in noise control and prevention – Bob Buero, UMWA
The workshop will also feature a presentation by Joy Mining Machinery representative Kary Valentine, as well as representatives of retrofit cab manufacturers entitled “Equipment Manufacturers’ Experiences Tackling Noise”
