The JV was awarded the $186 million contract to design and construct a coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP) for Boggabri Coal in September 2013.
The expansion of Boggabri Coal’s mining operation will produce 6.9 million tonnes per annum of thermal coal.
“First coal was achieved in December and we have successfully commissioned the bypass raw coal crushing system, the stackers, and the reclaim and train load out system,” Sedgman said.
Operations were voluntarily suspended in May last year as a mark of respect to the worker who died at Boggabri CHPP, Idemitsu said in a statement.
The worker, who sustained fatal neck and head trauma following an incident involving “some sort of structure”, failed to respond to CPR delivered by paramedics, NSW Ambulance said.
Idemitsu confirmed that the victim was a construction rigger working for the Thiess Sedgman Joint Venture on the mine’s CHPP expansion project.
