PETER Lawson recently joined Marshall Miller & Associates’ (MM&A) as vice president and manager of its Charleston office.

Lawson is a key addition in MM&A’s efforts to expand surface mining engineering, mine valuation, expert witness, and related services. He has 24 years of experience in the mining industry, most recently as division president and general manager of Catenary Coal Company (a division of Arch Coal Inc.).

Under his direction, Catenary doubled production between 1998 and 2002 to almost 8 million tons, while improving safety and environmental performance 53% and 82%, respectively.

Lawson’s area of expertise includes surface mining, environmental compliance, financial analysis, workforce development, and expert witness testimony.

MM&A is a “Top 500 Design Firm,” offering mining engineering, geological consulting services, and environmental engineering to the energy and mineral resources industry, as well as to the legal industry, land developers, financial institutions, the power generation industry, and commercial and manufacturing industries.

MM&A also has office locations in Bluefield and Richmond, Virginia; Morgantown, West Virginia; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Raleigh, North Carolina; Lexington, Kentucky; Kingsport, Tennessee; Lenexa, Kansas; and Shreveport, Louisiana; and has been providing consulting services since 1976. The company has also been working on an international level since 1986.
