Prairie gets community backing

The survey, conducted by Washington DC-based Public Strategies, surveyed 800 residents on the planned Peabody 1,500 megawatt electric generating plant and coal mine development to be sited in Washington County.

It found 84% of those polled believed Prairie State could be developed in a manner which would protect the environment.

Prairie State obtained its draft permit from Illinois in February and has received more than 700 letters and more than 80 community resolutions voicing support for project development. The public comment period continues until June 21.
