Queensland Mines and Energy minister Geoff Wilson said four houses in Ipswich were evacuated on Saturday as a "precautionary measure".
"It is clear that subsidence in the investigation area of Duncan, McInnerney, McLaughlin and Maloney Streets has continued," Wilson said yesterday.
"Surveys have shown shifts of up to 12 centimetres overnight at the intersection of Duncan and McInnerney Street, and seven centimetres down the centre of Duncan Street."
A geotechnical expert with knowledge of Ipswich's mine workings has been called in to examine the area. Structural engineers also have been engaged to conduct formal building inspections.
"Once we have detailed studies of the area, and once we have established the extent and the total area affected by subsidence, we will put together a comprehensive, longer term response plan."
