According to The New Indian Express, the company record, reached Sunday, was set by the Bhubaneswari open cast mine which already notched a 60,000-tonne day earlier this month.
Situated in Orissa’s Talcher coal field, Bhubaneswari is a flagship operation of Coal India subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfields Limited.
Resource-rich Orissa contains about one fifth of India’s coal.
A mine authority told The New Indian Express that Bhubaneswari had a target production of seven million tonnes for the current fiscal year.
MCL public relations officer Diken Mehra told The New India Express the miner has produced 97 million tonnes of coal so far this year.
