Queensland coal output for June

Opencut production accounted for 12.595Mt while underground accounted for 2.482Mt.

Of the total June 2006 production, coking coal exports totalled 9.324Mt with thermal exports making up 4.041Mt.

Some 1.905Mt were used within the state of Queensland for electricity generation.

Employment figures had risen significantly from the same period last year, rising from 15,861 to 18,687 people employed at Queensland's coal mines, both opencut and underground, during June 2006.

Some 3539 were employed in the underground sector, according to the report.

Coal exported through Gladstone amounted to 4.403Mt followed by Dalrymple Bay (4.146Mt), Hay Point (3.107Mt), Abbot Point (1.087Mt) and Brisbane (621,422t).

Of total exports, Japan received the bulk taking 5.235Mt, followed by Korea (1.720Mt) and India (1.389Mt).
