In its Monthly Coal Statistics report, Queensland's Department of Natural Resources & Mines reported that Queensland's coal mines produced 15.368 million tonnes of coal during August.
Opencut production accounted for 12.774Mt while underground accounted for 2.594Mt.
Of the total August production, coking coal exports totalled 10.033Mt with thermal exports making up 2.966Mt.
Employment figures had dropped from the same period in 2005, decreasing from 16,236 to 14,823 people.
Some 2995 were employed in the underground sector, according to the report.
Coal exported through Dalrymple amounted to 4.365Mt followed by Gladstone (4.294Mt), Hay Point (2.89Mt), Abbot Point (1.053Mt) and Brisbane (397,315t).
