Of the 17 teams in competition at the event , a local group – Twentymile Coal’s Twentymile No. 2 crew – was tops in the main mine rescue event.
Second place in the contest went to fellow Colorado mine Bowie Resources’ team and third was taken by Utah American Energy’s UEI Blue group.
Utah and Alabama had the top three spots in first aid. Energy West Mining’s Silver team of Utah earned both first and second places (under captains Kelly Duke and Gary Christensen, respectively) and Jim Walter Resources’ JWR No. 7 had the third place finish.
First place in the combination contest was again won by Energy West’s Silver team with Twentymile’s No. 1 crew coming in just behind. Jim Walter’s No. 7 team was third.
Two bench competitions, BG4 and Biopak 240S, were also part of the contest’s itinerary at the Paonia High School in Craig.
Taking the top three spots in BG4 were Energy West’s Silver crew, JWR’s No. 7 mine team and the No. 1 group from Twentymile mine.
The first two places in the Biopak division went to San Juan Coal’s Blue team (under captains Loren Smith and Todd Cheney, respectively) from New Mexico with third won by the rescuers from Bowie Resources.
