SME, CIM hosting joint conference

Entitled Safety in Mining: A Reliable Operation is a Safe Operation, the event is set for October 20-22 at the Hilton Toronto in Ontario, Canada.

A scheduled plenary session will feature four industry leaders from MIRARCO, Barrick Gold, Newmont Mining and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health’s Office of Mine Safety and Health Research achieved improved safety performance.

Additionally, conference sessions will be held on topics such as leadership for effective health and safety, managing hazards and risks, health and safety management systems, innovative thinking for safety and reliability best practices and case studies.

“In this joint conference, attendees will learn the elements of successful safety and health strategies and tactics on which employees and managers can rely to ensure that everyone goes home safely, every day,” conference co-chair and Colorado School of Mines research professor Dr Jurgen Brune said.

“The safety and health of miners continues to grow in importance as mining companies strive to operate in a sustainable manner.”

CIM and SME’s series of joint annual conferences have been developed to facilitate knowledge-sharing and best-practice exchanges within the North American mining community.
